Mark your calendars for Neal Lewing on June 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Library! Neal is part of the Humanities Montana Conversation Program and will be presenting “Meagher of the Sword, Montana’s First Acting Governor. According to the Humanities Montana website, “This is the story in folklore, music and Meagher’s own words, of the man commemorated in the statue that graces the Montana State Capitol’s front lawn.” Lewing is an actor, singer/songwriter, recording artist, playwright, poet, storyteller, author and historian. The program is free and open to the public.

For those who are not familiar with Thomas Francis Meagher, he was an orator during the Great Hunger of the 1840’s, escaped the British, landed in New York and eventually became a governor of Montana. His life biography, “The Immortal Irishman: The Irish Revolutionary Who Became An American Hero” by Timothy Egan was the Montana Book Award winner in 2016.

Countdown to Kindergarten registration is open to all children who will be attending kindergarten in the fall. Homeschool students who will start their kindergarten studies in the fall are also welcome. The program will begin Monday June 5th at 10:30 and run until August. It covers twelve basic skill students will use when entering kindergarten.

Mystery fans will be pleased that the Mystery Book Club will begin meeting on June 13 at 3:30 p.m. in the Library. Interested patrons are invited to bring several of their favorite mystery books to share with others.

June calendars are out with all of the different summer programs on them. The Summer Reading Program is open to babies through adults. Different programs will be going on from June 5 until July 29 so check the calendar for more information. This year we will be doing a pre-registration beginning on May 22 to avoid the pile-up on the first day. Every reader will keep track of their progress in minutes instead of titles. This will let everyone have a much easier time keeping track of their reading.

This summer we will also retain story time on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. This allow mothers who have both preschoolers and older children to come into town on one day instead of making two trips. The special summer reading programs will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and end at 11:30 a.m.

Don’t forget the Library will be closed on May 29th for Memorial Day. The Library will be open regular hours on Saturday (1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
