Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
I recently talked with Leonard Wortman about the Protest Form regarding the establishment of a Rural Ambulance District. I was confused about 1) the first paragraph and all the legal jargon. 2) a failure to respond is a “yes” vote. 3) if you return the form but do not make a selection, it is a “no” vote!!
Leonard said all of this jargon is a legal state requirement. And that he and many others whom he talks to are also confused. Well, Well, Well!
I personally plan to vote no. I am not opposed to ambulance services. I think ambulance service to our community is a wonderful necessity. I am opposed to the idea that we need two separate services. We need one good functioning service for the entire area.
I think the residents of Whitehall and Jefferson County should be mad that they are being asked to support two ambulance services just because a few people refuse to get along and cooperate. It is not a matter of CAN’T -it is a matter of WON’T.
I certainly believe that the Town Council has every right and legal obligation to operate the Town of Whitehall. I also think the crew of the original ambulance service did and still are doing a great service and are great people. But we do not need two separate services for our community. Of course, there are a number of reasons why two services are inappropriate. There are a number of possible scenarios that boggle my mind. For instance, what if I live out of town but need an ambulance while I am in town? It just seems crazy to me to support a service in town and another outside of town.
