Between the Stacks

I just received great news that Neal Lewing from Humanities Montana will be able to come and do his presentation on Thomas Francis Meagher June 5th at 6:30. It will be a great night of Montana history! Since May’s History Book Club is featuring “The Immortal Irishman”, this will be a great night to find out even more about one of our most well-known personalities.

On May 29 the Library will be closed for Memorial Day. We will be open on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., our regular hours. On Tuesday we will begin pre-registration for the Summer Reading Program for babies through adults. It is always so hectic the first week of June that the staff felt a pre-registration time would be helpful in not having such large crowds. We will be registering the children participating through the Whitehall School summer educational program the week before.

As the days get longer many of our regular programs will be taking a break for the summer. The Adult Watercolor class will be ending the end of May as will several others. They will be resuming in the fall so watch for startup dates. Several new ones will be beginning, such as the Ladies’ Writing Guild on Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. This group is open to any young adult or woman who would like to have a place to read their work, critique and offer suggestions to others, and explore the work or other young women. The regular writers group will no longer meet on Tuesday evenings.

May is also our celebration of Children’s Book Week. If you have never brought your preschooler to Story Time, this month is a great time to try it out. We will be doing crafts, stories, music, and more from around the world. Story Time begins every Wednesday at 10:30.

Springtime is the season for gardening enthusiasts to start digging in the dirt and planning all of those beautiful yards we see around town. The Library has a large collection of gardening books to give both veteran and beginning gardeners ideas and helpful hints about starting a new project or improving an old one. Don’t forget our large selection of gardening magazines to check out too.

If you can’t find me this week, it is because I am in Chicago visiting my daughter and her husband. I will be back in time to set up the Erin in Exile exhibit and enjoy all the treats at the reception on May 4 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.!
