After three and half years as the Cardwell School Clerk, Dawn Lewton has stepped down from the position. Despite leaving the job, she will still have a direct impact on the school.
At their regular meeting in May, Lewton will be sworn into take the place of Mike Mastel on the Cardwell School Board of Trustees.
“I love the Cardwell School and this seemed like a good transition,” she said.
Looking back at her time at the school, Lewton said it has been a good experience, but it was also a very hard job. Lewton said she didn’t know how much went into school finances. After learning the ropes, she is hoping to bring the knowledge she learned to the board.
Lewton praised Mastel for helping her during her time at the school, and said she is looking forward to working with current board members Trent Biggers and Ann Marie Carey.
First on the agenda for Lewton will be to come up with a long-term vision for the school, rather than operating month to month. She said the school is so vital to the community, but a lot of people don’t know it runs in a deficit. She is hoping for stability.
“I’d love to see that school there in 100 years,” she said.
McAllister resident Lisa Morgan has taken over for Lewton.
Morgan spent a total of eight years as the Alder School Clerk, and Lewton said her successorwould do a great job.
Lewton added the new clerk is already doing an excellent job and her knowledge and understanding of the law and finances will really help the district.
