December near target at Golden Sunlight

The last month of the year netted some of the best results of 2016 at the Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine.

At the Community Transition Advisory Committee meeting last Thursday, Mine General Manager Dan Banghart reported the production at the mine was 4,123 ounces, just short of the target for the month.

Banghart said it was one of the better months of 2016, and he was pleased with how the year ended. He added the tonnages in the mill and underground both exceeded their targets in December.

Also at the meeting, Banghart told committee members they would be changing things in the mill at the start of 2017. He said in December they ran the mill one time for around ten days, but at the start of the year they will run it twice a quarter. In the first quarter of the year, the mill will run in mid February and late march. He said they are hoping to achieve the same production targets as running it once or twice a month, and are doing this because of startup concerns during colder temperatures.

Banghart stated there are currently 44 Barrick, 1 Regional Barrick, and around 90 contract employees at the mine.

The mine did not report any third party ore deliveries in December. The January 12 meeting was also the same day as the one-year mark without a reportable injury at the mine.

The next CTAC meeting is scheduled for February 9 at the Borden’s Building.
