Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
The Whitehall High School boy's basketball stayed undefeated at home with a 70-53 win last Thursday over Manhattan.
The Trojans jumped out to a 20-12 lead in a first quarter that saw freshman Max Feight drain three three-point shots.
Head Coach Zach McLean thought his team did a better job to start the game which has been a concern, but said he was still disappointed the team gave up a lot of good early looks on the perimeter.
Both teams would score 12 points in the second quarter to keep the Whitehall lead at eight going into half. The Trojans would outscore the Tigers by three in the third quarter, and six in the fourth on their way to the convincing victory.
Whitehall was led in scoring by senior Andrew Simon who had a game high 20.
McLean said he told Simon before the game to play underneath the basket, and he responded with a great game.
"I shouldn't have to tell him to get on the block. If they are going to stay behind him he should be able score even time he gets it on the block. We fed him and he made good moves in there," McLean said.
Senior Braden Larsen added 19, Feight had 16, senior Colton Noyes had eight, Wyatt Alexander chipped in five and Ryan Murphy finished with two points.
McLean said Noyes really did a good job Thursday reading the Manhattan defense and made some good moves in the paint.
This week Whitehall will face two tough road battles, the first a matchup Friday at Townsend. The team will travel Saturday to play Missoula Loyola.
McLean said one thing he would like to see is the team starting to generate consistent stops on the defensive end.
