Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
A year ago Ken and Linda Glaus had their cattle the victims of an out of control semi truck whose driver didn't pay attention to the flagman and was not able to stop soon enough. That situation could have been so much worse - loss of human life. Moving livestock on Montana highways is not uncommon. The five mile trip from the Carmody ranch to bring the cattle home is usually uneventful. Prayer for this time was offered up and even in a heavy snow storm, the cattle arrived home safely. A wonderful Christmas blessing.
Last year, Bill and Rhoda Powell had their Christmas celebration turned upside down when their son, Josh, and his wife, Mallory, with their two little boys, Braxton and Brody, were involved in an automobile accident on their way to Cardwell. Lots of snow and some chilly weather didn't dampen the party spirit this year. Tait Powell just returned from a 10 day visit to a special someone in Georgia. David and Shaina Sunwall with little Samuel, arrived from Salt Lake City, Laura Steele was home for the school break, Seth and Becky Powell came from Belgrade, as did Josh and his family. Randy and Laurie Steele, Bill, Rhoda and Thad Powell completed the family for an early Christmas so other families could celebrate together later.
The final games for the Cardwell Lady Cougars were cancelled because of the very cold weather. Roads weren't good for travel either. Coach Rossiter has consistently said that the girls played hard and learned a lot about teamwork. Boys basketball will begin on January 3rd with the first practice. It sounds like Ashley Todd will do the coaching with back up from Levi Simon. Will give more definite information later.
At least 25 students stayed after school to enjoy the Birthday Party for Jesus last Wednesday. Kyle Gilstrap talked with the kids before games and face painting began. Garrison Shaw, Thad Powell, Megan and Ryan Rich and Anna Grinder did crowd control with organized - maybe a little chaos - games, while Julie Eakin and Dawn Huckaba did the face painting with appropriate designs for the season and the Guest of honor's birth. Treats, as well as a birthday cake, were passed out before the sky lanterns were lit and sent into the atmosphere. The lanterns are to represent Jesus, the Light of the world.
Two recent deaths of interest to the area happened this past week. John Layne, a resident of Bozeman for most of his adult life attended school in Whitehall, grew up in Waterloo. My sister-in-law, Darlene Talbott Jackson, passed away after a brief hospital stay. She and my brother, Ed, live in Boise. Darlene's family is also from the Waterloo area even though she didn't grow up there.
It's appropriate to announce a birth to bring joy and happiness to our world and especially at this season of the year. Austin and Brittany Lewton are the proud parents of George August, born November 15, 2016, weighed 9.8 pounds and measured 20 inches long. Grandparents include Paul and Konny Thompson of Carlsbad, California, John Lewton of Belgrade and Dawn Lewton of Cardwell.
Merry Christmas to all of you. Christmas Eve services are at 6pm at the Cardwell Church. It's a wonderful way to begin your special celebrations. "Unto you is born this day in the city of David (Bethlehem) a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord."
