The Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department responded to three fires over the holiday weekend.
According to Fire Chief Jeremy Ward, the first fire the department responded to was Thanksgiving night at La Casa Trailer Park No. 2 in Whitehall. Ward said they were paged at 6:20 p.m., and had seven fire fighters and five trucks at the fire. He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the trailer has mostly external damage. Ward said a family was displaced the night of the fire and as of Monday, he was unsure if they had returned to the home. Personnel from Whitehall Ambulance and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the fire. Ward added they returned to the fire department at 8:13 p.m.
The department responded to two fires Friday morning, the first at 2:59 a.m. to a garage fire at 824 Highway 55 in Whitehall. Ward said the fire from the garage spread to haystacks at the location, and they were on the scene until 10:58 a.m. Ward said the garage and one haystack were a total loss, and the fire is still under investigation. Six Whitehall fire fighters and four trucks were at the scene, along with five fire fighters and three trucks from Twin Bridges. Ward said JCSO and Whitehall Ambulance personnel also responded to the call.
The department also responded Friday at 4:34 a.m. to a wild land fire at the Parrot Castle Fishing Access. Ward said five fire fighters and three trucks responded to the “50 by 50 feet” fire. He said while the fire is still under investigation, it could have been caused by a campfire. He reminded local residents that just because it is nearing winter to make sure they extinguish campfires. The JCSO also responded to the wild land fire.
Ward also reminded residents to check their chimneys before starting fires this winter, and during the holiday season to be careful not to overload circuits.
No injuries were reported at the three fires.
