Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Local voters may have to wait a while to cast their votes to determine if there will be a new Ambulance District in Jefferson County.
An election scheduled early next year for a district proposed by members of the Jefferson Valley EMS and Rescue has been cancelled.
Jefferson County Commissioner Leonard Wortman said the County made a mistake during the process for a referendum creating the district.
“Because the decision to create the district would be up to the people of the district we didn’t think we needed to do a Resolution of Intent to Create the District. However, that was required, so we will start the process over,” Wortman said. “The first step will be to hold a Public Hearing at our meeting on December 20th and then discuss and decide on the resolution of intent. If that passes, we would then need to do a resolution to call for the referendum and open up the filing period for the trustees. The election would likely be late spring or early summer.”
On July 12 of this year, the Jefferson County Commissioners voted 3-0 to approve a resolution to place the question of forming a district on an upcoming ballot.
The district proposed by members of the Jefferson Valley EMS and Rescue has a coverage area that will include the Whitehall School District, excluding the Whitehall Town Limits and Silver Bow and Madison Counties.
