Hi Folks,
Well, the election is over. Some of it went the way I wanted and some of it didn’t, but that’s the way it generally works. Even though I was running unopposed, if I spent any money, even encouraging people to vote or to thank them for their support I would be required to open a bank account and fill out a bunch of paperwork.
This had to be one of the strangest elections I can ever remember. I still can’t believe Donald and Hillary were the two best people we could find in this whole country. But, if you think about it, who in their right mind would want to have their lives picked apart like that.
Every four years about half of our population are unhappy with who gets elected President, and there are some that are very unhappy about it. However, this year, it seems way worse than normal. Granted, Donald Trumps has said and done things that are inappropriate and in some cases downright stupid, but the way we elect our president is set in our Constitution. We have constitutionally mandated checks and balances, so that one branch of our government can’t gain too much power by itself. If the aim of the current protesters is to change the outcome of this election by protest, I think they need to go somewhere else and be governed by a different kind of government, and while they are at it, they should take the idiots that won’t stand for the National Anthem with them.
Our government may not be perfect, but I strongly believe that it is the best one in the world. I hope everyone will give the new President a chance to see what he can do. This last campaign for President lasted over two years, so just think, it can start again in another two years. Now that’s something to look forward to.
FYI: In Australia, voting is compulsory and citizens over 18 are fined if they do not vote.
