Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Voters head to the polls November 8

There will be several key local seats up for grabs November 8 on Election Day.

In the race for Jefferson County Attorney, incumbent Steve Haddon will square off against Erin T. Inman. Haddon was selected to the position in 2015 after the resignation of longtime County Attorney Matthew Johnson.

In State Senate District 38, Democrat Edith (Edie) McClafferty is running against Republican Glenn J. Rosenbaum. The winner will fill the seat of Jim Keane, who did not seek re-election because of term limit laws.

Incumbent Republican Kirk Wagoner is running against Democratic Challenger Sabrina Steketee in House District 75.

Republican Ray Shaw is running unopposed in House District 71.

Jefferson County Commissioner Leonard Wortman is running unopposed for reelection in his District 1 seat, and Dorianne Woods is running unopposed for Clerk of District Court.

In State Senate District 36, Republican Jeff Welborn is running unopposed.

Jefferson County residents will also have the opportunity to vote on three mill related ballot issues. The first is the Jefferson County Public Health Mill Ballot. The ten wills would generate approximately $267,210 per year for use by Jefferson County Public Health. County residents will also be voting on the Noxious Weed Control Mill Ballot, which would, in the amount of three mils, generate approximately $80,1953 per year for use by the Jefferson County Weed Board.

The final ballot issue for residents of Jefferson County is the Emergency Broadcasting System Mill Ballot. The proposed ballot measure would increase tax liability for the 2017 year and for one tax year thereafter in the amount of two mills for use by Jefferson County.
