Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Laurie Powell Steel and Jennifer Powell Murga were raised in Paraguay where their parents, Bob and Glenda Powell, were missionaries. As adults, they lived on two different continents - North America and South America. Recently, the Murgas moved to Billings where Rico Murga assumed the managing of health care situations on the Indian Reservations of Montana and Wyoming. The Steels have been in Cardwell on leave from the mission field in Paraguay. With only three hours separating the sisters, visits are easy. Jennifer and Rico along with Diego and Daniella spent a week here with the Steels. Years nor miles have diminished the affection between these two.
Break Away Youth Ranch held its Fall Fun Day with food, pie baking contest, apple cider making and lots of games. The over-flowing crowd were treated to four hours of getting acquainted with and witnessing the progress of the ministry and the resources available to a variety of children with emotional and other needs.
October’s meeting of the Jefferson Valley Museum was short but the work of getting the facility readied for the off season took some time and muscle. Several items were moved inside with some of them needing cleaning and treatment for the weather. Monday afternoons will be set aside to work on files and repairs, etc. of the other artifacts.
Following the Three Forks vs Whitehall football game the sports writer for the Montana Standard comments -- ‘ninth ranked Whitehall put up 36 points in the first quarter to laugh past visiting Three Forks;’ He made the Trojans and their fans look very unsportsmanlike! It’s also very poor journalism. Wouldn’t want to have that comment made against the Whitehall team. Perhaps he should hear from some of the Whitehall coaches and fans.
Kaitlyn Lamb is officially a lawyer! She passed the bar exam and was sworn in to complete the arduous years of education and testing. She will continue to work in a District Judge’s office in Billings before launching out on her own. Jerry and and Sharon Kanodt, Kaitlyn’s grandparents from Wyo. were able to be here for the ‘swearing-in’ ceremony. This past Saturday, an Open House was held at the Lamb residence to honor Kaitlyn who finished the bar exam with high scores and received certification for many of the states in the U.S.
Nakoah Falcon and Annabelle Welch were chosen as ‘students of the month of September’ at the Cardwell School. Savannah Rossiter commutes from Sheridan to teach at the Cardwell School and in the past has coached both the girls and boys basketball. The commuting will be a little much so the coaching positions are open for interested people. Please call the school at 287-3321 for more information.
October is Pastor Appreciation month. Do something nice for the man in the pulpit. I Timothy 5:17 & 18 says, “Let the elders who rule well be worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in word and doctrine. For the Scripture says, ‘You shall not muzzle an ox when he treads out the grain, and, the laborer is worthy of his wages.”
