Through every point, set, and match of the 2016 season, the Whitehall High School volleyball team has continued to show improvement.
While the Lady Trojans were unable to pickup a victory last week over Sweet Grass County or rival Boulder, they played extremely competitive against the two strong teams.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Trojans fought hard against visiting Big Timber, but ultimately fell in four sets.
The Lady Herders won the first two sets 25-18, and 25-22. Whitehall came back strong in the fourth picking up a 25-19 win. Big Timber sealed the match in the fourth with a 25-12 win.
Kaya Welch had 20 assists and nine digs for Whitehall. Mesquite Melton had 13 digs, Rachel Smith had 12, and Alicia Loomis added 10 digs.
Whitehall also played a strong game last Thursday on the road in Boulder, where they lost in three sets 25-20, 26-24, and 25-15.
Welch had 11 assists, Monica Sepulveda had 10 kills, Mastel finished with 6 digs.
"It's been very exciting to see how these girls continue to improve. After every single competition we've had coaches and officials tell us that they're seeing remarkable improvement here," head coach Lauren McDonald said.
Whitehall will have a week in between games and will not take to the court until September 29 at home against Broadwater.
McDonald said they are going to be working on building the team's physical fitness level.
"We've been focusing so much on skills that our conditioning isn't as high as I would like. I think the third game last night (September 22) showed that - the girls were a bit tired after giving it their all for the first two games. Our skills are now to the point where we can even out practices with conditioning and skill work," she said.
