Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Year in and out, local junior high and high school rodeo competitors and their families make numerous trips across the state. This weekend they won’t have to travel and get the chance to compete in front of a home crowd at the annual Whitehall High School and Junior High Rodeo.
The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, September 10 beginning at 10 a.m., and Sunday, September 11 at 9 a.m.
Rodeo organizer Lonna Johnson said putting together the tournament is a lot of work, but it will be nice for the kids to compete at home, and hopefully they will have a lot of people show up to cheer them on.
According to Johnson, around 80 competitors have signed up for the rodeo.
Four local students will be competing on the high school side, including senior Cole Dunagan, who will be honored prior to the start of competition Sunday. Also competing on the high school side are Katelyn Wagner, Evan Wagner, and Brooke Smith.
On the junior high side, Jacy Johnson, Garris Robertson, and Brynna Wolfe are all scheduled to compete. The trio will be busy with Johnson signed up for all six events, Robertson for five, and Wolfe for four.
The annual event also allows local of any age to get in on the action with Open 3-D Team Roping and Jackpot Barrel Racing scheduled to take place following the action Saturday.
The cost to attend the rodeo $5 a day, and Johnson said weekend passes would also be available.
