Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Fair Time Fun

Madison County Fair brings the crowds

After a few minutes perusing the Fair Grounds in Twin Bridges, it was crystal clear just how important and popular the Madison County Fair is to the residents of Whitehall and the surrounding area.

Throughout the four day fair, residents of the Lower Jefferson Valley made their way to the event to compete, sell items, float down the lazy river, and to just take in all of the other fair time fun.

Among those in attendance on Friday were Kurt and Diane Ward. A member of the Whitehall Garden Club, Diane had won several first place awards for her entries in the 2016 fair. Kurt said his favorite part of the Madison County Fair is the Ranch Hand Rodeo. He said what the ranch hands do with both their trucks and horses is amazing.

Also taking in the activities Friday were residents of Liberty Place, who make the trip an annual tradition. Liberty Place Program Manager David Parker said the residents like to come and take in all the events, but the biggest hit with them is all of the food vendors.

As it has been for decades, 4-H events were once again one of the more popular events of the fair, with numerous local kids competing in a variety of events.

Whitehall resident Zeb Antonioli was among the many who made the trip from Whitehall. A member of the Rocky Mountain Rascals, Antonioli is in his eighth year in 4-H and was competing in shooting, poultry, and market lamb events.

He said that it is nice to be rewarded for all the hard work put in during the year, but the pace of the fair can make it a very hectic time.
