It was business as usual last Friday night for the Whitehall/Harrison High School football team. The Trojans (5-0, 3-0 Southern B) had five different players find the end zone on their way to a 47-7 victory on the road at Three Forks. Junior gunslinger Max Feight had a huge night for Whitehall. The Whitehall High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its third class, the Class of 2018, in the spring of next year. This year’s class features athletic director, Dan Reum, who served for more than 25 years from the 1970s through 1990s. This class will also induct long-time contributor Dr. Gayle Sacry. Two teams are highlighted in this class; the 1978-79 State 3rd place Wrestling team, and the 1990 Boys Basketball State Runner-up team. The Whitehall High School varsity volleyball team will look to pick up their first conference win this weekend against rival Jefferson High School. The Lady Trojans were on the road Tuesday night in Big Timber. After having their last two meets cancelled, the Whitehall High School Cross Country team will be back in action Saturday at a meet in Butte. The Trojans once again had to wait another week to compete after their meet last Saturday in Anaconda was cancelled due to snow conditions. The team had hoped to make up the Anaconda meet Monday, but it was unfortunately also cancelled. While the conditions may not have been ideal for a Whitehall/Harrison offense that had averaged 41 points in their first three games, it was a perfect opportunity for the Trojans defense to once again show they are one of the elite defensive units in Montana. Hunting season has arrived. Here are a few tips from the Jefferson Valley Sportsman’s Association. 1. Hunting on private land is a privilege, not a right. As a hunter, you are a guest on someone else’s land. Hunting on block management areas can be discontinued during the season for individuals who don’t follow the rules. Engines will roar at the Bureau of Land Management’s Pipestone recreation area Sept. 16-17 during a competitive motorcycle race. Earlier this year, the BLM Butte Field Office issued a 10-year Special Recreation Permit to 5th Gear Productions, based in Three Forks, to conduct the annual race at the Pipestone Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area, about 13 miles east of Butte. Despite a conference loss last week to Manhattan, Whitehall High School head volleyball coach Lauren McDonald is pleased with how hard her team is playing. The smoke filled Montana skies led to the cancellation or postponement last week of numerous high school sporting events across the state. This included a meet for the Whitehall High School Cross Country team. WHS Athletic Director Dan Lacey told the Ledger Friday afternoon the decision had been made to cancel the Harrison Cross Country meet last Saturday because of smoky conditions. For the second straight meet, Whitehall's Madison Loomis finished in sixth place for the Lady Trojans. After placing sixth at the season opening meet in Boulder, Loomis had the same finish last Friday in Twin Bridges. The sophomore finished the race with a time of 23:32.35. On Friday night, September 8th, the WHS Athletic Hall Of Fame Class of 2017 (the class that was enshrined in March of this year) will be recognized at half time of the Trojan’s first home football game against Red Lodge. Dynamic junior returner Connor Johnson took back the opening kickoff 70 yards for a score, the first of four first-half touchdowns in the impressive 28-12 road victory. There were plenty of positives for the Whitehall High School volleyball last Saturday in Manhattan. The Lady Trojans were not only able to pick up a victory against Livingston, the young team was also able to gain valuable experience on the court. It's so far, so good for new Whitehall High School cheer coach Allissa Christensen. After a week of practice, Christensen said things have been going very well for the 2017 fall squad. There will be a new assistant coach on the sidelines for the 2017 Whitehall/Harrison High School football team. Brennan Hayes was hired over the summer to join the staff that includes head coach Dan Lacey and assistant Ed Simon. In an interview last week, Hayes who is a third grade teacher at Whitehall Elementary, said it was a honor to be hired for the position.
