The Whitehall Lady Trojans took on two strong teams in the past week, first taking on the Townsend Bulldogs on Thursday, January 12. The Whitehall Wrestling team had a busy week. This started with a match against Townsend on January 3. As Whitehall co-ops with Harrison, this dual was held at the Harrison gym. Whitehall wrestlers traveled to Anaconda on December 19th for a pre-Christmas dual. When the dust settled Whitehall had fallen to Anaconda 42-30. The large crowd was treated to 20 individual matches. The evening started with the varsity matches, and because of injury and illness, several of the younger wrestlers were able to get varsity experience. Trojan wrestling journeyed to Great Falls to participate in two different tournaments this passed weekend. On Friday, December 16, the CMR Holiday Classic started with both girl's and boy's divisions. This was the largest tournament in the state for this weekend. The AA, A and many of the class B schools were there. With the support of many community members, Whitehall hosted 25 teams and over 300 wrestlers, including 45 girls wrestling in their own competition. After three days of wrestling, Whitehall wrestlers finished in fourth place. Others placing included Three Forks (first), North Fremont, ID (second), and Jefferson (third). The Trojans beat Shields Valley Friday, December 9th 55-42 with a great defensive effort by the entire team! Sophomores Ashton Pochelon and Joe Denny had gutsy performances to lead the team offensively. Pochelon led the team with 18 points and Denny had 10 off the bench. The girls played Shields Valley Friday and won 47-22, with nine different girls scoring for the Trojans. Senior Maxine Hoagland and Lauren Cima both had 11 a piece. On Saturday the Ladies played Manhattan Christian and lost 49-31, Junior Lindsay Briggs led the team with 11. The Lady Trojans will face some really good teams before Christmas, which will really test where the team is at. After two days of competitive wrestling among 21 boy and 13 girl teams, the Whitehall boys placed second and the girls placed sixth. Whitehall entered 19 boys and two girls into the tournament, earning eleven medals. In the girl's competition, Alexas Rector earned a 2-1 record with 2 pins and a second-place medal. For the men's team junior Wesley Biggers took 18th place with 18:29, sophomore Ethan Valov 39th with 20:14, freshman Jordan Mercer 57th with 21:29, and freshman Miles McLean took 62nd with 23:01.
