Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks staff at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park are proposing to replace and upgrade the septic drain field at the park. The new system would handle projected increases in visitation over the next 20 years. The existing drain field is insufficient to support the current number of visitors, which have recently increased. Visitation during the first quarter of 2021 at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park was up by 78 percent from the same period in 2020 and more than triple the visitation during the first quarter of 2019....

Lately a rash of burglaries has taken place in Whitehall and Sheriff Craig Doolittle wants the town to know his deputies are working hard to fight...

This week we pay tribute to the fathers, grandfathers and men who step up and make a difference in our lives. June is also observed as Men's Health Month. So how healthy is that important man in your life? When was the last time he had a physical or participated in preventive screenings? Statistics indicate men are 24% less likely than women to have an annual physical. I have heard it said that men are more likely to take their car in for a tune-up than themselves. There are many reasons men...
If only the walls in Rod and Mary Lee James' house could talk, they would tell many stories of all the Orediggers who walked through the front door for over 40 years. The dinners, Sunday night football watch parties, and even a holiday or two have been highlights for so many. Rod and Mary Lee's ranch home in Whitehall, Montana, is filled with pictures of their family intertwined with images of Orediggers who have become honorary Jameses. Many student-athletes have been welcomed with open arms...

This year, appears to be more of a return to normalcy. Vaccinations and anti bodies seem to be giving protection and more confidence in activities and life. We are looking at things in our lives and our home that have been neglected or taken for granted. In our hometown, one of these things either neglected or taken for granted is our heritage Lewis and Clark murals. The murals are especially unique to Whitehall. No other town, certainly in our area, perhaps in the state has anything even remote...

Local Whitehall resident and Montana History “Live” founder Mark Brown (who also happens...

The resolution read: Resolved, that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field representing a new constellation. Then on June 14, 1877, the flag was flown from every government building in honor of the centennial of the adoption of a national...
