  • St. Teresa's has new priest

    ROBERT MAGART, Contributing Writer|Sep 6, 2017

Saint Teresa's Catholic Church has a new priest, Father Elias Kabuk. Father Elias happily states, "I actually am titled a Parochial Vicar." What that means is that Father Elias has been loaned to the Catholic Diocese of Helena from the Archdiocese of Kaduna, Nigeria, Africa, and the Diocese sees fit to have a local priest as the pastor. Father Thomas Haffey, who is also pastor at Saint Ann's in Butte, is the pastor. In charge in Whitehall is Father Elias. Nevertheless, the parishioners from... Full story

"Feed your babies onions so you can find them after dark!" Or, how about "Ho Ho Hey, Don't take my boat, I got's fishin' when I get to Hare Bay." The audience was singing, laughing and clapping! We had been asked to sing along by Bob Ringler and Friends (Barb Pearson and Lynda Brannon) and by Rock and Flower (Bruce Goebel and Debra Christiansen). It would have been rude to not sing along – right?!? The Music by the Caverns' final 2017 season event was soaring along on a high note. This season w... Full story

  • Column: Mystic Mac

    Jack H. Smith, Ledger Publisher|Aug 23, 2017

I’m under the firm belief that there can never be too many articles about football in not only the Whitehall Ledger, but any other publication. If there was an article about the 3-4 defense in Cosmopolitan, you better bet I’d read it. However since there are already four articles about football in this issue, I best not get too crazy and write this column about the ole pigskin. I also have probably written too much about my cats lately, so I best change things up for my weekly column. This weekend millions of people across the country will be...

Down McKeown Lane is a wonderful old house and out buildings that belong to Scott and Tracie Cornwall. Over the years, Tracie has put a foundation under the old house, done some landscaping and at present, Scott is in the process of refurbishing the barn. Tracie told me some time ago that her investigation of the property indicated that the house had actually had school held in part of it. Recently, Tracie turned 60 years old! Her daughters, Sarah and Aons llie, threw an afternoon party for her, so folks could come and go and wish her well....

These women asked her if she would lead them in a Bible Study. She agreed, but told them she would not "spoon feed" them. From those first five women, what has grown into Bible Study Fellowship International (BSF), is now holding classes, for both men and women, in more than 40 nations and has more than 350,000 class members. Locally, three women (Carol Latta,...

September is always the time to re-organize the schedule and settle in for winter. Starting September 1st the Library will have new hours per request of our patrons. The new hours reflect not only the busiest times during the week but also the multiple requests the staff has received for opening earlier on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Many of you have told me that you are in town running errands, attending the Farmer’s Market, dropping children off at events but then have to wait several hours for the Library to open. This new s...

    Catherine Ellerton, Contributing Writer|Aug 16, 2017

What makes you think that is an Ameraucana? What color egg does it lay? What type comb does it have? What are you training it to be? I must admit I was drawn to the crowd that was witnessing this questioning period as I began my wandering through the many exhibits and buildings at the Madison County Fair. Judge Vicky Stevenson of Ulm, MT., was teaching a chicken training class to young Clover Bud 4-H Members. She has been involved for over 40 years in 4-H and travels throughout the United...

In the Fall of 1980, our daughter, Kelly, left for college in Nampa, Idaho at Northwest Nazarene College and sent us this. I thought maybe there would be some parent that could use a little encouragement and would be blessed. Hold Fast the Summer It is the beauty of the day and all it contains. The laughter, the work and finally, the sleep. The quiet. Oh, September, do not put your weight upon my mind, For I know that she will be going. This daughter of mine who is now a woman - she must go. Time will lace my thoughts with joyous years, The...
