When hosting friends and family at home, it's understandable that hosts direct so much of their focus to the foods they plan to serve. The main course is often the focal point and most memorable aspect of a dinner party, and that's true whether the get-together is a backyard barbecue, a holiday meal with the family or a formal affair with colleagues. Food might be a focal point, but guests also will need something to drink. Traditional spirits like wine and cocktails are the standard, but hosts...
For many years, Frank and Harriet Jester had tried, God knows they had! In the late Spring of 1923, their patience was finally rewarded when little Charlotte Mae came into this world with hardly a peep. In fact, both Mother and Father would say that little Maisie was the best baby they'd ever had (ironic since she was their only child.) Frank and Harriet were from opposite ends of the country. Harriet a New Jersey lady, while Frank was born into one of the original gold rush families, out of...

In turn of the century New England, short hair on women, even shoulder-length, brought the offending female under more than a bit of suspicion. Josaphyna Dundarsen was such a female! Not only did she wear her hair uncomfortably short, she wore her heart on her sleeve, so to speak, showing off a star-shaped pendant on a choker around her neck. One might say Jo, as she was affectionately known to those few who truly knew and loved her, didn't care what people thought of her. However, coming from...

The following is taken as written from October 4 and 10 editions of the Whitehall Zephyr. The photo is an ad that appeared in those editions. Homestake Trestle Burned. Bruce Denny began his time in this world June 3, 1941 in Laurin, Montana and made quite the entrance when he arrived. Thought to be stillborn, and with attendants dealing with his mother's already rough condition, he was placed in a shoebox and covered with a dish towel, to be dealt with at a less chaotic time. However, with a wiggle of his toes, a nurse saw that he was indeed alive. What could have been a terrible mistake was quickly corrected and Bruce began his adventurous life as one of...

I have arrived in Castle Town, Montana – 2 months gone and hopefully only another five or six weeks before I see your beautiful face again! He was 79. He was buried in Boot Hill on Wednesday. And....that was it, three l...
