The hard work of local fire departments and other agencies has kept a 32-acre fire at the Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine in Whitehall at bay. According to mine General Manager Dan Banghart, fire departments from Whitehall, Harrison, Boulder, Three Forks, Twin Bridges and United State Forest Service all responded to the wildfire that started Saturday afternoon on mine and BLM land. The Jefferson County Commissioners voted Tuesday on a referendum for a resolution to place a special ambulance district on the November 8 ballot. The Commissioners will vote July 12 on the resolution for the district whose coverage area would include the Whitehall school district, excluding the Whitehall town limits and Madison and Silver Bow Counties. The Lewis and Clark Caverns were alive with the sound of music on Sunday, June 26. Guests were swingin' and swayin' and clapping hands and singing along as they took a moment on their way to or from the Caverns Tour. Former residents Jim Capp, Mrs. Charles Davis, Louise Capp Martin and Helen Michel recently came to visit the JV Museum to reminisce about the many adventures they had shared in this small western town. They brought friends from 'The Springs of Butte' an assisted living home and their friend Andrew who was their tour organizer and bus driver.
