At Whitehall Elementary School we have a March Madness Money War. This is a great fundraiser we do for the PTSA. Grades K-5 compete on which grade will raise the most change to win, without being sabotaged by other grades. Coins add to their grade's total amount, while dollar bills from opposing grades subtract from their total, creating a war. It's all very fun and the winners will be announced at the end of March. The winning grade will receive a pizza party and extra recess. How can you help? The Whitehall PTSA is seeking businesses that...

There will be a planning meeting on Monday, February 27 to decide how much of a garden to plant this summer. Many community members have enjoyed working there in the past, and have benefitted from the produce. Come to this meeting if you would like to be involved in planting or weeding or harvesting. The meeting will be held at...
Republicans’ number one goal this legislative session has been to provide financial relief to Montanans struggling with Joe Biden’s inflation and the high cost of living. An early, priority package of eight pieces of legislation is aimed at delivering on that mission. Together, these bills combine to immediately put money in Montanans’ pockets, provide long-term tax relief, and reduce taxpayer obligations into the future. House Bills 192 and 222 return over $700 million of Montana’s historic budget surplus directly to taxpayers in the form of...
People often misconstrue good fortune as talent, and even more confusingly- bad fortune as a lack of it. Good-hearted people are also usually naive. They don’t expect to be scammed because they wouldn’t scam others. Provided a hose is nearby, it’s better to step in dog poo barefoot than with shoes on. One frustrating thing about getting older is younger people not getting your references; the upside is they assume you came up with all those clever one-liners. Most humans have been correctly applying physics in their daily lives without ever...
The second half of February 1897 had plenty of news events. National headlines in Whitehall's Jefferson Valley Zephyr included turmoil in the senate and a bill in the house to appropriate money for the armor plating of war vessels; a lavish inauguration was being planned for McKinley; a bank failure in Idaho hit close to home; and proclamations made by President Cleveland set aside seven areas of land referred to as forest reservations including areas in the Flathead, Lewis and Clark forest,...

QUESTION: Do I really need to change my passwords so often? ANSWER: The short answer is yes, but there are several things to consider. Online security and vulnerability does not have a yes or no answer, it is a question of how much security you want or need on a long scale of vulnerability. Your password is like the key to a door. How well you protect that key will depend on the value of the contents behind that door. Something valuable like access to your bank, confidential business...

The Montana Healthcare Foundation released its third annual report on the Montana Medicaid program and its impact on the state’s budget, economy, and health. The report found that Medicaid expansion enrollees had fewer visits to the ER each year they were enrolled in Medicaid. This year’s analysis also showed that with these better health outcomes, the healthcare costs for expansion enrollees declined each year they had coverage – and perhaps more importantly, how healthcare spending patterns for enrollees changed over time. “Medicaid coverag...

Spoofing and bank impersonation scams impact many banks across the US, and we have received reports of bad actors...

It can be all too easy, especially when we aren’t feeling well, to harbor negative beliefs, thoughts, and emotions about our bodies. We may feel frustrated, betrayed, hopeless, angry, or even hateful about what we are physically experiencing. We wonder what we did to deserve this, what we did wrong, or why our body can’t just cooperate and do what it’s supposed to. I used to think many of these things myself, and I’ve heard them from many others as well! But as I’ve studied, traveled the path...
Have you ever had a break in your train of thought? I’m not referring to one of those forgetful moments either, those occur for a variety of reasons. I’m talking about a moment when you pause from your line of reasoning by taking a short Segway to communicate another valuable thought. Well, Bible authors have written in a similar fashion often, all for an important purpose. We find this to be the case in the later verses of Hebrews 5 continuing into chapter 6. “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you becau...
