  • Town weighing ambulance options

    Jack H. Smith, Ledger Publisher|Feb 1, 2017

The Town of Whitehall is currently exploring options to keep its ambulance service. According to Town Attorney Edward Guza, the Whitehall Ambulance Service is currently not taking calls as they are trying to figure out how to keep the service going in their current environment that he said is limited by rotations and limitations. Guza said keeping the service that is operated with an enterprise fund is not the easiest thing to do. He said as a government body you have certain requirements, and there is a lot more flexibility in how a private in...

  • Column: Deer Basketball

    Jack H. Smith, Ledger Publisher|Feb 1, 2017

This week I have a story in the paper about a painting event taken place later this month at Legends. I really feel it's amazing to have events like this in a small town. As much as I would like to go, I don't think that would be the best of ideas. Sure I may go get some pictures and do a little story, but I won't be painting any pictures. While I'm sure I was blessed with a few nice qualities -- drawing, painting, or anything to do with music are not my specialties. When I was in grade school,...

  • For Your Information

    Arcylle Shaw, Contributing Writer|Feb 1, 2017

A couple of weeks ago, Donna Clark’s daughter, Shelley, passed away quite suddenly. When seeking to have the obituary published in the Montana Standard we discovered that depending on the day of the week, the cost would vary. For instance, instead of $79.00 ($89.00 with a photo), it was going to $108.00 for just the obituary!! We understood that that price included the photo, (which was sent but never received). However, to have a photo along with the obit, it would be $119.00! The letter to the editor of the Standard was never published, e...

After trailing the entire first half last Friday night, the Lady Trojans roared back in the second half, but their valiant effort fell just short in the 37-36 loss. Two weeks ago the Lady Herders picked up a 36-33 win in Varsity Gym. Whitehall girl's coach Herman Gerving said the Lady Trojans need to come out stronger and not let the other team get the lead. • County Commission Update

    Leonard Wortman, Jefferson County Commissioner|Feb 1, 2017

Hi Folks, A couple of weeks ago, I attended a conference in Helena put on by a group called the United Property Owners of Montana. One of the speakers was an attorney from Wyoming named Harriet Hageman. She talked about Regulation Without Representation. Harriet pointed out that when Congress passes a law, it is often fairly broad and vague, so the agencies interpret the laws and come up with regulations to enact the laws. In January 2011 President Obama announced an Executive Order to review; regulations already on the books and to remove...
