  • Dear Editor: Why Would Any Elected Official Try to Curtail Our Rights to Firearms?

    TERRY MURPHY|Oct 16, 2024

Dear Editor, Some American military experts are concerned that a war between the U.S. and China could lead to a Chinese attempt to invade our west coast. Since China outnumbers us by about four to one, I suppose they might consider such a thing. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor brought the U.S. into World War Two some Americans were worried about a Japanese invasion. However, a leading Japanese military officer cautioned the political leaders in Tokyo to not consider it. In essence he...

  • Dear Editor: Mandating Electric Vehicles by 2032

    TERRY MURPHY|May 22, 2024

Dear Editor, Rural Montanans deal with many trials that those in urban areas do not typically struggle with-whether that is internet connectivity, access to healthcare, or simply just the mileage it takes to get to a gas station or grocery store, the fact of the matter is that folks in the more remote portions of our state rely heavily on their vehicles to access the basic needs and services that we all rely on. Unfortunately, the EPA's recent rule mandating that two-thirds of vehicles sold by U...

  • Dear Editor: How the Electoral College Works

    TERRY MURPHY|Feb 28, 2024

Dear Editor, There is much discussion and misunderstanding about the electoral method we use to elect the President of the United States. It is really a simple and good way to do it as I see it. It is set up in the Constitution as follows: "Each State shall appoint in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person...

  • Dear Editor: Regarding Paul Cartwright's Opinion Piece

    TERRY MURPHY|Aug 3, 2022

Dear Editor, Regarding the Opinion piece by Paul Cartwright, I would beg to differ. I served in the Montana State Senate with Matt Rosendale. While Matt and I didn’t vote the same on every single bill I knew that his votes were cast after thoughtful consideration. I found him to be reasonable and respectful. To condemn him for voting against appropriating another 100 billion dollars of borrowed money to blow up in somebody else’s war in Ukraine is goofy, at best. I would feel my tax dollars are a lot safer with Congressman Rosendale than wit...

  • Dear Editor: Look at Criminal Violence not Gun Violence

    TERRY MURPHY|Jun 15, 2022

Dear Editor, The lengthy letter in your issue of June 8th contains a lot of statements about guns. Some of them seem pretty fictional to me. Here is a fact: In 2021 Chicago had 797 homicides. Chicago has about the strongest laws against private gun ownership of any place in the USA. In 2021 the state of Montana had 50 homicides. Montana has one of the highest rates of private gun ownership in any of the 50 states of the USA. Montana is also one of the states whose laws allow the most freedom to keep and bear arms. I have been around guns...

  • Dear Editor: Thanks to Congressman Rosendale

    TERRY MURPHY|May 11, 2022

Dear Editor, As a Montana farmer, I am deeply concerned about the anti-natural resource policies of the Biden Administration. Agriculture is the economic backbone of our state, and his policy decisions are causing serious issues for Montana’s agriculture industry. The struggle to pay skyrocketing prices for essentials like fuel and fertilizer, plus inflation and supply chain issues is very serious. I am pleased to see that Congressman Matt Rosendale has signed onto a letter sent to President Biden with concern over these issues. The l...
