    While they were unable to walk away with a victory, the Whitehall High School girls basketball team played some of their best basketball season in the second half of a loss Friday night against Missoula Loyola. After trailing 25-14 at halftime, Whitehall would claw their way back into the game in the fourth quarter and closed to within 43-40 on a Hope Slater free throw with 4:45 left in regulation.     Trailing 16-10 at the end of the first quarter Friday night against Missoula Loyola, the Whitehall High School boys basketball team came out firing on all cylinders in the second quarter. The Trojans outscored the visiting Rams 18-4 in the quarter on their way to a 72-58 victory.     The Whitehall High School wrestling team had six wrestlers place on their way to a third place finish at last week's Choteau Tournament. According to assistant coach Steve Sacry, the tournament featured 31 Class B/C teams, and Whitehall only finished behind Malta and Thompson Falls. "That high of a placing requires a full team effort.     During his time as a player and first eight seasons as head coach of the Whitehall High School boys basketball team, Zach McLean had never left Anaconda's Memorial Gymnasium with a victory.     Later this month, local residents will not only get the chance to meet actor Bill Pullman and director Jared Moshe at a special premier of the "Ballad of Lefty Brown" at the Whitehall Star Theater, they will also have the opportunity to raise money for the Jefferson Valley Museum. At a special meeting Jan. 3, Council members Barbara Gagnon, Katy James, Jason Good and Montina Rawson, and Mayor Mary Janacaro-Hensleigh were sworn into their positions.     Two days after a botched attempt to take an ATM at the Cardwell Store, two suspects were able to steal an ATM at an Exxon store off Interstate 15 in Idaho Falls. The IFPD has pictures of a flat-bed Super Duty Ford Truck used at both incidents. The the truck was stolen, and the New Mexico license plates were stolen from another vehicle.     The Whitehall Chamber of Commerce is looking to move away from the Futurity Event at the annual Frontier Days Celebration in July. Chamber Executive Coordinator Casey Chase said at a meeting last week that it has become more difficult to work with contractors and while prices are going up for the event, attendance is not.     The Whitehall High School wrestling team had two place at last weekend's prestigious Tom LeProwse Tournament in Bozeman. Junior Connor Johnson placed fifth at 132 pounds and Dawson Hoerauf finished seventh at 285.     The Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire December 30 at 4 West Olive Street. According to Chief Jeremy Ward, firefighters were called to the scene at 1:19 p.m., and upon arrival they reported smoke coming out of the attic. In a special election November 7, local voters approved the formation of the Jefferson Valley Rural Ambulance District in the Whitehall area.
