    At a special meeting last Wednesday, the Whitehall Town Council voted to suspend member Francine Giono-Janik without pay. The motion passed by the governing body states Council Member Janik will be suspended "until she fully discloses the full extent of her involvement with the installation of hidden cameras in the ambulance barn and her role as a consultant with Partners United For Life Saving Education (P.U.L.S.E.)."   • Three fires over holiday weekend

    The Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department responded to three fires over the holiday weekend. According to Fire Chief Jeremy Ward, the first fire the department responded to was Thanksgiving night at La Casa Trailer Park No. 2 in Whitehall. Ward said they were paged at 6:20 p.m., and had seven fire fighters and five trucks at the fire. He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the trailer has mostly external damage.   • Wreath Auction set for December 10

    Each year local residents come together to build wreaths for the Whitehall Christmas Stroll Wreath Auction. In its 18th year, the event serves as not only a fundraiser for the Whitehall Food Pantry, but also raises thousands of dollars for numerous local non-profit organizations.   • Ambulance district election cancelled

    Local voters may have to wait a while to cast their votes to determine if there will be a new Ambulance District in Jefferson County. An election scheduled early next year for a district proposed by members of the Jefferson Valley EMS and Rescue has been cancelled.     There was a record number in attendance at the 19th Annual Festival of Trees event that took place last Thursday night at the GranTree Inn in Bozeman. According to Festival of Trees Chairman and Liberty Place Executive Director Ann Geiger, over 290 attended the fundraising event.     Kountz Road, in the vicinity of Big Pipestone Creek, will be closed for ten days beginning Saturday, November 26 at 8 a.m. Northwestern Energy will be installing a barricade across the road immediately south of Sugar Beet Row, and approximately 200 feet south of the existing Big Pipestone Culverts.     Through the assistance of two recent grants, the Partners United For Life Saving Education (P.U.L.S.E.) was recently able to donate a Power Load Cot System to Jefferson Valley EMS and Rescue.     Last July, a herbicide was placed in the Jefferson Slough in an attempt to knockout Eurasian watermilfoil prior to a planned relocation of the Slough. According to Jefferson County Weed Coordinator Jill Allen, Dr. Ryan Thum of Montana State University and students from the School’s Plant Science and Plant Pathology Department did the monitoring of the application.     The first time I walked into the office of the Whitehall Ledger in February of 2015, I quickly noticed a framed issue of a newspaper hanging on the wall near the entrance. I quickly glanced at the paper, and realized it was the first issue of the Ledger. For reasons I'm not quite sure of, the issue does not have a date on the front page, but it was published sometime in the spring of 1984.     The 2016 season will go down as one of the best ever in the history of Whitehall High School football. The Trojans, who finished the season with a 10-2 record and a spot in the MHSA Class B Semifinals, were well represented on the District 5B All-State and All-Conference teams.     Whitehall High School students are just days away from their performance of "Arsenic and Old Lace". The annual fall play at the school is scheduled for Monday, November 21 and Tuesday November 22. Both performances are slated for 7 p.m. Drama Director Cheri Shaw said the play written in 1939 by Joseph Kesselring is a classic, and really fit with the cast she has.     After a solid month of production in September, Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine General Manager Dan Banghart told those in attendance at last week’s Community Transition Advisory Committee meeting in Whitehall, that the production in October was not as favorable. Banghart reported the production was 1,740 ounces, which was 45 percent of their target for the month.     With the Holidays just around the corner, the Whitehall Food Pantry received a significant donation from the Knights of Columbus Council 8375 in Whitehall. According to Knights of Columbus Secretary Bob Casagrande, the organization decided at their November meeting that with the Holiday season coming up, they would donate $1,500 to the Whitehall Food Pantry, and $500 to the Ennis Food Bank.
