    ELIZABETH PULLMAN, Whitehall Ledger|Sep 27, 2023

After several months of back-and-forth discussions with the State Fire Marshall, Screams Come True (SCT) has been given the go-ahead after installing a commercial fire suppression system, smoke detectors, and lighted exit signage in the Whitehall Community Center. This endeavor was not a cheap one but the community of Whitehall came to the aid, knowing the value SCT provides to other community events - SCT funds community theatre, Shakespeare in the Park, the Gold Junction Presents film series,...

"It breaks my heart more than you know that we were not able to find someone to continue on this wonderful sandwich shop and deli," Pepper Tree Deli owner Dana Brunet said with a half-hearted smile. The Pepper Tree Deli, purchased by the Brunets in 2018, has been a staple on Legion Avenue, surviving COVID-19 in 2020, business ups and downs, and more. Their delicious sandwiches, sides, and ice cream will be severely missed, as Whitehall's eateries are now down by one once again. "We've had our st...

  • What Happens If SCT Is Shut Down...

    ELIZABETH PULLMAN, Whitehall Ledger|Aug 30, 2023

I get it. Many people see me as the Halloween-obsessed owner of the Whitehall Ledger and the creator of Whitehall’s annual haunted House Screams Come True (SCT). And it’s true - I am all of those things. However, SCT isn’t just about Halloween. It’s not “just a haunted house” as I have heard many times in the last month as I fight to work out issues with SCT’s location and lack of commercial fire suppression system with the State Fire Marshals. SCT is so much more than that. Let’s get basic here. SCT provides the youth of Whitehall (as w...

The Council, up until last month, believed their PO process was legal. However, after queries regarding the Mayor’s installation of a 4-way stop sign, the non-ratified PO process was discovered. Now the PO process that has been used for years is now legal and was signed into effect immediately as of the meeting. In short, t...

Has your business benefited from the thousands who visit Screams each year? If so, Screams Come True is asking for your help. In 2022 Screams Come True was named Montana's top haunted house destination by Travel Pulse magazine. And, due to the haunt's success, it was put on the radar of the State Fire Marshall. • Editorial: Moose...and More Moose....and MORE MOOSE!

    ELIZABETH PULLMAN, Whitehall Ledger|Aug 16, 2023

With the otter attack fresh in my mind, I was a little leary when I made the decision to float the Madison in Three Forks to Headwaters on Sunday afternoon. Granted, no one thinks something as out-of-the-blue as an otter attack will happen to them, especially after it just happened less than two weeks ago on a different river. We went, and we half-heartedly joked about it happening to us because "it would be our luck" and then...Moose. Not just one, not just two, but four in the course of a few...

Ned is the 30-ish son of Ma and Pa Boodle whose efforts to introduce girlfriends to his family don’t turn out very well. His family is somewhat “colorful.” But Ned’s latest introduction of a lady friend to the family is different. Elaine sees what few others see in the family Boodle. With understated humor, the final scenes just might help you view your own crazed flesh and blood w...
